Hi everybody.

Help me.. I'd like to pair my Pioneer AV receiver and Panasonic TX-P55VT60 with a BD player.

At the moment my choice (for budget reasons) is between Pioneeer BPD-160 and BDP-450. I can't understand which one is better in pure terms of audio and video quality (and hopefully build/quietness).

Any help?

Thanks!

Here is the comparison:

I don't want to go OT, but I'm reading about a lot of people suffering problems with the BDP-450. Like random freezing during playback and lip-sync issues. I am very concerned.

It seems LX55 also got some big issues.. http://www.avforums.com/threads/pioneer-bdp-lx55-blu-ray-player.1479945/page-4

Maybe I should go for another brand.

It seems like you have all answers to your questions and don't really need any advice. That's fair enough.

I don't need an advice, I need to understand. Saying 450 is better is not helping me.

By the way, thank you. :)

450 has 2 HDMIs - you can use older AVR and no need to buy new one, Talking of DVD-Audio and SACD, the Pioneer BDP-450 plays both of these high-resolution disc formats. FHD BD picture will be identical to the lower model. However it does have Marvell’s QDEO chipset for video processing; PureCinema and Motion Adaptive I/P conversion modes; Triple High-Definition Noise Reduction to remove Gaussian, block and mosquito noise in the picture; and Stream Smoother, which has been developed specifically to tidy up web-streamed video (from the likes of YouTube). This is from the review and this is true - for SD picture 450 is much better. Nevermind all miracles it does with CFW....

DOWNGRADE TO 1.02 FROM 1.05 TO INSTALL CFW. (uploaded files to different site from the original to make things easier)

First Step:

Downgrade from 1.05 to CFW to DG:

1) Download ' http://www.mediafire.com/download/ecfmwbjwo0bbjpv/BDP-150_SP-downgrade.rar ' and copy the file 'BDP-150_SP ' to a Empty USB (formatted in FAT or NTFS NOT EX FAT!!!)
2) Plugin the USB into the BDP 150
3) Boot up BDP 150 (without any discs inserted) and press Home button

5) Go to options, and select update

6) Update from the USB
7) When installed it will reboot.

Second Step:

5) Go to initial setup and options and select update.
6) Update from the USB

Third Step:

1) Boot up BDP 150 (without anything inserted) and press Home button
2) Go to initial setup

It seems that 'ScreamsDream', 'borland', 'bguzman', 'bumblefeet' (and many other users in this forum!) are absolutely, correct, in their application of sucessfully downloading & applying the 'downgrading CFW' and then the 'CFW 4.03'(fomr the Russion site, I believe), to SUCCESFULLY make their Pioneer BDP-105 completely 'region-free-for-Blu-Ray & DVD' playback!!
Let me just add a few of the 'other' problems that I ran into when installing my downloaded CFW for my BDP-105:
1) the 'FAT or FAT32' formatting USB format 'DID NOT' work for me, so I had to re-doe the formatting in the 'NTFS' USB formatting, before the files would work for me!
2) You DON'T seem to need the 'extra' 2 x additional files stored on the USB for these CFW's to work...(i.e.don't seem to need the * 'DLDISCIDENTIFIER' file, OR the * 'DVD.bin' files, the 'one's that appear on the Official PIONEER BDP-150 official Firmware files, now that your installing the CFW files!)
3) Remember to 'un-zip' the 'BDP-150_S-downgrade' file first (...& also un-zip the 'Pioneer BDP-150 Firmware - v4.03' file as well, when it comes time to use that download)..., as I had to use a program called 'Winzip' to unzip mine!...I downloaded this un-zipping program on-line.
4) After using the initial 'downgrade' firmware file, the new Firmware showing on my BDP-150 came up as ...'BDP-150 Activefile '5.09' February 02_2013' version!!
5) I also had to 'download' the program called 'Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 x86 Redistributable', a program I found on-line.(using Google..), so that I could in fact use the 'MTKPIO.exe' program, otherwise it would not recognise the 'MTKPIO.exe' program file on my IBM-compatible pc!
6) After installing the second update file.file 'BDP-150_SP.bin', the one you've just un-zipped, form the USB into your Pioneer BDP-150, the software version/Firmware number niow showing should now be ......'BDP150 V04.03'
7) ..one final tip, remember to press the 'GENERATE' icon within the 'MTKPIO.exe' program on your PC (after you've entered your BDP-150 player's 'unique/individual' 'mac address' and 'serial numbers', otherwise the 'MTKPIO.exe' program will not now show you/Generate your unique 'codes' for you to enter on your BDP-150, after entering/pressing 3 7 2 1, in the 'twelve step' of 'Third step', as ScreamDream avsforum user has indicated!
P.S. the above are just added problems I ran into, in addition to what the others have indicated in their '3-STEP' procedure, to transform your BDP-150 into completely 'region FREE for BD-dvd playback!!'.
ALL the best converting, as I am completely won-over by how sucessful this CFW's have transformed my player!!
Best Regards,
Mark L.

It seems that most online stores are now listing the BDP-62fd as Discontinued or Out of Stock (including BB). It's still listed as available on Pioneer's website at full price. The price on Amazon has moved up pretty sharply (now at $310). Is the BDP-62fd now at end of life? Has anyone heard if Pioneer plans on introducing a new version?

I have successfully joined the BDP-62 region free and streaming club. My thanks go out to Adviser on this forum for some technical help to stream BD-iso files. Has anyone on the forum been able to figure out and use the Movie Poster option as seen on the web for this player which would greatly enhance the 'juke box' look and feel?
Love the player and many thanks to those that paved the road for the enhanced playback options.

Just an FYI - those who are having issues with streaming on 450/62FD CFW should try using Hanewin NFS on the server, with 4096 transfer size. Anything else and the chance of stutter or lipsync is increased. This is from hours (days) of studying ISO and BDMV streaming performance. The current CFW only uses NFS UDP, which is prone to packet loss with very slow recovery times compared to NFS TCP.
I've verified this with a custom version of UNFS (open source), hardcoding the NFS UDP transfer size to 4096 bytes, to duplicate the performance of Hanewin NFS.
So, any of you with streaming issues should try Hanewin NFS + 4096 transfer byte size first..

I have the BDP-450, which had the firmware v2.09 when I got it.

I followed the description mentioned here in the thread and got it to v.2.05 before I installed the CFW v4.04.

All went well and it is activated. So far so good.

But I still have these problems :

1) I do not get the menu when I press '3344' in the 'Initial Setup', so I can not set the DVD to 'region free'. Nor can I set the Blu-Ray region.

But I can live with that, as it so far has played everything I have thrown at it.

2) Cinavia was supposed to be deactivated/removed with the CFW v4.04. Now that is not true in my case. I still get the message after 20 minutes and the sound is gone as if I was still using the original firmware.

The internet connection is of course deactivated in the setup.

Am I the only one with this problem or is there a setting I have missed ?

Are you 100% sure it's been activated? Most likely not. Can you see SN? If YES - it's not activated. no reaction to 3344 code is another symptom of non activated CFW. What to do? Factory defaults, re-flash, re-activated. You can PM me your SN and MAC and I will generate the unlocking code for you and you can compare it with your activation code.

it's not straightforward, mate. this is what I can tell you. the rest is outside of the new rules of this forum as I can't give you a link to the original Russian hack and pictures any more. That's fair enough but to be honest I don't really want to mess with uploads, downloads or PMs so you are on your own. However you can have a look how the movie wall looks like

If you select a movies poster does it provide metadata or is it simply a poster driven menu?
